When painting from life, the moment experienced remains imprinted in the work, with all the characteristics of place and time. The large clouds in the sky, the long shadows of the boats, the imposing tower with the castle, the various colours of the beach and the tall grasses of spring. The memory of a small misadventure also remains. While painting, I had to hold the easel with one hand because there was a slight breeze, but a stronger gust of wind threw the canvas I had already started into the water. The force of the wind pushed the current offshore and the canvas moved further and further away from the shore. I remained uncertain and fearful; mountain people do not know how to swim. A gentleman who was there watching me paint, was quick to put a boat in the water and retrieved it for me. I thanked him warmly for his kindness. The salt water had torn the colour from the sky, but to my amazement, I realised it was more beautiful! I left it as a memento. Even the water had taught me a lesson! This work is also in Palermo, in Pippo and Morena's house. Painted from life, cm 70×90 year 1986. Bringing the sky closer to see the colour torn from the sea.
