During an exhibition in Camigliatello Silano in 1985, I met a couple from Palermo: Giuseppe and Morena. After buying two paintings, they expressed to me their wish to have some landscapes of Sicily. The following autumn I went down to Sicily and made about ten sketches, painted on site. These were views of Caronia, Cefalù, Tusa, Sferracavallo, Castellammare del Golfo, Erice, the salt pans of Trapani, Balestrate, the tuna fishery of Scopello, Milazzo, San Vito Lo Capo...
Four were chosen. This one of Erice is one of the four, made from the sketch painted from life.

The village, the convent of San Giovanni and in the distance on the sea Mount Cofano.
